The Truth About Beauty

Posted on May 24, 2008 - Filed Under beauty

A friend sent me this in an email, and though I’d read it before it hit home more this time around. It’s a poem by the timeless beauty, Audrey Hepburn. I really like how that lady thought. WC

“For attractive lips, speak words of kindness.

For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.

For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.

For beautiful hair, let a child run his/her fingers through it once a day.

For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone.

People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed; never throw out anyone.

Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you will find one at the end of each of your arms.

As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands; one for helping yourself, and the other for helping others.”

Actually written by Sam Levenson and even though Hepburn said it in different speeches and things (she always gave him credit) but people over the years just thought she wrote it too. He is an amazing talent. Some of his quotes are funny! I’ve read he wrote it for his grandchild and it was titled, “Time Tested Beauty Tips” but it was one of Hepburn’s favorites and somehow along the years folks just assumed she wrote it.

On that note, however, each line speaks volumes. Reading it over and over again it does focus on what really matters in a person and what makes them beautiful, what comes from the inside radiates outward ;) Love the message!

    Wow Bella,
I had no idea Sam Levenson wrote this. My bad. It is a wonderful sentiment though and she was the ultimate graceful beauty.

Audrey Hepburn always fascinated me, so outwardly beautiful, with such an inner radiance. I can see how this poet was inspired. He really captured the essence of true beauty. I understand how it hit home.

How are things improving with your friend? Are you doing okay?

She’s doing better - I’ll be answering your email later and give you a full update on what’s been going on. Okay?

I always loved her. She had so much class. Doesn’t matter who wrote it, the right sentiments are there. Though I give Sam Levenson kudos and Audrey for realizing it’s truth. Javaqueen, you are so smart and writerchick you are so cool for posting it.

LOL Joan, I always wanted to be her - when I was a kid, I used to watch her movies (rerun on television) over and over. She was a very special woman.

Hmm -I thought I already left a comment on this one. Musta left the page before it submitted or something. Anyhoo - she was a rare one. Beauty AND brains AND common sense - not what you’d find in most of the starlets these days, huh? ;)

    Hey Teens,
I thought you did too - maybe on the old blog? could be or we’re both just eating too much sugar, eh?

OOps - I just read the comments above and see that she is not the author. Still, she is pretty smart to have appreciated it enough to make it popular! :)

    Yes, she definitely was. :)
